PAD 2022 Day 15: Patience

This poem is presented in its rough draft form for the PAD 2022 challenge and will be revised.

PAD Prompt: Patience

Poetic Form:  Acrostic

Untitled

Passing intersections, each a moment,

Another chance to change direction

Til everything is right, nothing left

In the questions we ask only to ourselves.

Enough is a word we never use.

Notes of fear linger on our tongue after

Catching in our throats. We wonder how

Every road we travel never leads us home.

Poetic Form 55: Golden Shovel

Why Poetry

-after Langston Hughes

Even in the darkest moments I hold

a pen with a fire to capture the fast

and fleeting muse that commands my mind to

fill the spaces between walking and dreams.

The strokes of ink are arrows, hoping for

the gods, for the titans, to reveal if

I am worthy to mix a life with dreams,

or if words stay in my mouth when I die.

Each step I take is a verse of my life,

that I write with rhyme - sometimes. Breathing is

a pact between impossible and a

faith in flight. My heart can be broken-winged,

but poetry sets me free like a bird.

No matter the hue of the moment that

spurs my mind. These words, windows that cannot

close, allows my muse open lines to fly.

Poetic Form #55: Golden Shovel

The Golden Shovel form uses a line or two from another poem.  Use each

word in the line (or lines) as an end word in your poem. You keep the end

words in order as they appear in the original poem. (So, you can read their poem

reading the end words.) Make sure to give credit

to the poet who originally wrote the line (or lines). Your poem does not have

to be about the same subject.

Poetic Form 2: Tricube

Time

I watch time
slip through the
voice of my

children. From
I love you
to silence

behind doors.
Time will give
them the words.

Poetic Form #2: Tricube

A tricube has three stanzas with three lines in each stanza. Each line has three syllables.

Poetry Challenge Day 13: Purpose

I Write

I write
to fill the blank page in my heart
    creating the letters
        capitals
        and lowercase
    between the solid blue lines
        just above the dotted line
with just a touch of my own personal style

I write
    to understand what is right
in the midst of all that is wrong
        anger
        and pain
filling the headlines in bold letters
        using a simpler font
I sift through today with a pencil

I write
to worship the power of the word
that creates the reality of now
        joy
        and love
to be discovered in the space
on the paper in front of us
creation is found in the written words

I write
    to bring the past forward
to connect to my children’s future
        history
        and possibility
combine in a single purpose that reveals
why the story of their life
started with me writing between blue lines

Poetry Challenge Day 10: The (blank) That (blank)

The Word That Can Save The World

God said let there be LIGHT
    And there was LIGHT
An interesting word to start all of this
    Did he know that darkness
would be created, too?

Consider how we plant street lights
Leave TVs on as we sleep
    Candles burn for
        dinner
        romance
        fragrance
        and to pray

You would think that LIGHT was the most
    powerful word in the world
let your light shine
Be a part of
a thousand points of light

But the darkness never seems to fade
It dances on the edge
    of every day
We can not illuminate enough to remove all shadows

LIGHT is not the word that will save the world

LOVE is

LOVE is the word that will save the world

LOVE is...

Poetry Challenge Day 2: Space

Somewhere between now and then

Somewhere between now and then
Between you and me
A vastness exists
    Like the space between words
The hollow knowledge in the middle of the letter O
Emotion shown between the parts of an exclamation point

We are defined by the use of this space
Watch as the distance changes from
    Stranger to
    Friend to
    Lover

Each defined by the physical
    As it decreases
    emotion increases

Like a letter
    that combines with another
to create a word when combined with another
        forms a sentence
that enlightens our meaning of this space

Because we only understand it by what we construct to take its place

Thrid Collection of Very Short Stories

Here is the third collection of very short stories... a couple of these need to be expanded.

"What if we are on the last line of God's #haiku?" she asked. Her mother put down her pen. She had been writing her weekly letter to her own parents. The quarantine was now into the third month. She looked at her daughter, green eyes hoping. "It was a beautiful poem." #vss365

He #organized the love letters into shoeboxes. Each card placed in the envelope with the crease at the top. Placed in the box by date. Funny, there were no letters since 2016. He placed the shoeboxes into a packing box with the divorce papers. He had enough for postage. #vss365

The #Armada Township in Nebraska was busy that day. The Miller Community Center was packed. The parking lot filled with mostly trucks, but a few tractors. The President was on the radio. Only the soft cooing of a child was heard when the world went back to war. #vss365

"Dad, can you dance?" "I can do the #Robot." "What is that?" "Play some music... and watch this!" After a minute he sees that the room is empty, but can hear the laughter from the other room. He continues anyway, awash in memory. #vss365

"May I have a #word with you?" The little boy hung his head walking to the corner of the playground with his teacher. What had he done this time? He felt like everyone wanted a word with him. He resisted the urge to run. "That was an awesome throw!" He smiled for once. #vss365

The lights. The stage. The microphone. The paper filled with words not #spoken. Her hands trembling. Her pain and beauty screaming to be heard. The audience waiting to be knocked over with her voice. She coughs and opens her soul for the world to hear. #vss365

He couldn’t get a #spark from the lighter. Panic set in. He felt around him for some stones, something. It was day 88 of the darkness. He tried to slow his mind. There was a rumble building behind him. He couldn’t tell if it was them or just the world falling apart. #vss365
