Day 9 Prompt: Persona

Form: Hir a Thoddaid

“Old Metal Slide”

I hear you clambering to the top,

go down 540 nonstop.

Laughter filling the sky, a backdrop

to a joyful moment. I eavesdrop

on your conversation, father’s love for

growing daughters, no need to stop.

 

Poetic Form 12: Gogyohka

 

Today

Watch the sun rise

fill the smiles 

of children playing

on blue swings and yellow slides

as the sun sets

Poetic Form #12: Gogyohka

The gogyohka form was developed by Enta Kusakabe in Japan.  It translates to "five-line poem."
The only rule is that the poem is comprised of five line. The lines tend to be short, following the tradition of Japanese short verses.

I Dream of Better Days

I dream of better days

When a handshake can seal the deal

When I can eat a wild apple, the peel

Stuck in my teeth, juice on my chin

I dream of better days

When a hug will feel like Christmas

When I can choose to stand last

In a line, not feel like sin

I dream of better days

When the playground slide is free

When the masks fall to see

Smiles from strangers and kin

I dream of better days

When hearts’ desires are pursued

When a day lived is not a feud

Between regret and wanting to begin

I dream of better days...
