Day 30 PAD 2023

This poem is presented in its rough draft form for the PAD 2023 challenge and will be revised.

“Again”

Surprise, you’re just not good enough - again.
The stage lights shine through the cracks
of your armor. The faults can’t be held back,
fear and doubt mix like a spring hurricane.
Surprise, you’re just not good enough - again.

You feel the rumbling of hope on the tracks.
Turn in anticipation, adjust the backpack
you carry your future in, to see a runaway train.
Surprise, you’re just not good enough - again.

A lucky step saves you, a flashback
whirls in your ears of times you unpacked
hope with trembling hands, but in vain.
Surprise, you’re just not good enough - again.

You feel the gravel in your sole, falling back
to here and now, the horizon turning black
as the dust on your coat of arms. Nothing but pain.
Surprise, you’re just not good enough - again.

PAD 2022 Day 27: Remix

This poem is presented in its rough draft form for the PAD 2022 challenge and will be revised.

PAD Prompt: Remix

Poetic Form: Contrapuntal

“How to mend a Broken Heart- Follow”

Follow

The first step is to start.

Follow forever

Taste the pain, a flaky tart,

Follow friends

to inspire the muse of art.

Follow fables

Follow faith

Happiness will feel like a blink,

Follow fads

yet, the cracks will break the link

Follow fancy

to the tears that smudge the ink

Follow flames

Follow fantasy

you chisel into the heavy stones

Follow failure

of time. Stop. Listen to the tones

Follow future

your heartbeat creates for loved ones.

Follow forgotten

Follow fleeting

Tension between the beats will strain

Follow

the rails this pain uses to take us by train.

Follow fiction

At the next stop, taste the rain.

PAD Prompt: How to Blank

Poetic Form: Diminishing Verse

“How to mend a Broken Heart”

The first step is to start.

Taste the pain, a flaky tart,

your heartbeat creates for loved ones.

the rails this pain uses to take us by train.

At the next stop, taste the rain.

Poetic Form 14: Diminishing Verse

Fading

Between them, a conflicted strain
built over time. Life traveling straight like a train.
Both feeling stuck in emotion’s rain,
while wanting to see the Jura Mountains as the river, Ain.

He wanted to tell her of the songs he writes.
She needed to know his words completed her heart’s rites.
Together at the table they lived as lonely-ites.

Silently, they wonder how love became a tangled knot.
Neither one brave enough to bridge what they know not

of. Instead they spend each day feeling love lose its...

Poetic Form #14: Diminishing Verse

Diminishing verse has one rule, remove the first letter of end word from the previous line. A poet can remove a sound, too. (I took the idea of diminishing a step further in the poem with the verses.)

Poetry Challenge Day 4: Wish

I Wish

“I wish,” she didn’t finish her thought
I didn’t know her but she sat across from me
Her hands were tense like knots
Her eyes dark and dreamy

I didn’t answer, the rhythm of the train
Filling the air between us
The window filled with color lanes
Greens, blue, and red rust

I was going home after a week
On the coast, selling possibilities
Trying to bridge the distance, I speak
“What do you wish? Loss of responsibility?”

She smirked at my attempt
But her hands relaxed on her lap
She sighed with discontent
“I wish I had a better map”

“That would show the hazards of life.”
I nodded in agreement
She turned back, silence a knife
Tempting me to bereavement
