Day 9 PAD 2023

This poem is presented in its rough draft form for the PAD 2023 challenge and will be revised.

"How to Die on Social Media in 4 Steps"

One: Assume everyone actually cares
About the food you ate
The stairs you had to walk
Or that you are having a bad day

Two: Try to feel loved with each icon
That fills in on the screen
Rely on your ego to be fed
Be ready for the hunger to stay

Three: Smile in every reply
Even on the hard days
Your eyes have to shine
Remember your life is on display

Four: Hold your phone at all times
Notifications are all you need to feel
Those chimes will send chills
Better than reality you’ll say.

Poetic Form: Nonce

PAD 2022 Day 23: Conspiracy

This poem is presented in its rough draft form for the PAD 2022 challenge and will be revised.

PAD Prompt: Conspiracy

Poetic Form:  Nonet

“Notification Conspiracy”

The notification says it’s time

to live life through other people’s

content. We feed ourselves by

consuming feeds through a

screen. Reality

no icon to

click. Life is

to feel

heart.

Poetic Form 44: Sijo

It’s not fair, the way you hold from day to night. Left then right,
a passion for the touch of togetherness found by blue light.
Too many screens fill our world view, alone we text as friends fail.

Poetic Form #44: Sijo
A sijo is a traditional three-line Korean poetic form. Each of the three lines average
14-16 syllables, for a total of 44-46 syllables. The first line is usually written in
a 3-4-4-4 pattern and states the theme of the poem. The second line builds on the
theme and is usually written in a 3-4-4-4 pattern, too. The third line is divided into
two sections; the counter-theme (or twist), is grouped as 3-5, while the second part,
the conclusion, is written as 4-3.

Google Maps

Flying from Lincoln
To Denver
To Phoenix
To Portland

I sat in a window seat
And watched the world go by

It looks nothing like Google maps.

I watched farm land
Rise to mountains
That fell into desert that bled
Into grey rainy weather

But I never saw a bright red line that indicated a state line
Or a small black one to show a county
Or a dotted line for a new time zone

No,
I watched rivers snake across the land,
I watched straighter roads do the same
At times I could see the vehicles
 Rush with the tide

But instead of division lines
I connected every city
Every town
Every farm house
With the roads that cut across the surface of this country
It would take time,
But I could walk out my door and see anyone

I found it interesting how easy we are all connected with the things we make
 Roads
 Phones
 Airplane Seats
Yet, the person next to me has nothing to say
 Earbuds are in the way

From 40000 feet
This life doesn't look anything like
Google Maps.
