Day 10 PAD 2023

This poem is presented in its rough draft form for the PAD 2023 challenge and will be revised.

“How These Days”

Oh, how these days simply fall away
into moments we wish we could hold
onto. Smiles, even as stories told,
tainted with regret of passing days.

A truth we all ignore, as we pray
for the secret to change time; fool’s gold.
Oh, how these days simply fall away
into moments we wish we could hold.

We walk past pictures hung in hallways
as if we are wearing a blindfold
around our hearts, scared, a stronghold,
fear that we’ve only lived for someday.
Oh, how these days simply fall away.

April Poetry Challenge 2021: Day Twenty-Nine

Day 29 Prompt: Evening

Form: Rondel

“House”

House, dark and asleep, I can write.

The last of my breath fills the page,

as the writer now takes the stage.

Computer screen shines, a spot light

on my monologue, so quiet -

keep the peace, even when I rage.

House, dark and asleep, I can write.

The last of my breath fills the page.

Words roll on the screen like headlights,

blinding my tired eyes of age.

Time’s script always sends me downstage

to find a rhyme to this good night.

House, dark and asleep, I can write.

Poetic Form 86: Rondel

 Walk By

No one turns to see me walk by.

Shadow fades as they blankly stare.

I keep my head down in a prayer,

a lonely song I testify.

The street is crowded, suits and ties

mix with soleless shoes, smiles rare.

No one turns to see me walk by.

Shadow fades as they blankly stare.

Everyone has an alibi

for the way they hide their despair.

No reason to connect, don’t care.

No one turns to see me walk by.

Poetic Form #86: Rondel

The rondel is a French poetic form with 13 lines, usually eight syllables,

in three stanzas. The rondel uses a rhyme scheme with refrains (AB):
